STRIKE IN FINLAND
The Transport Workers’ Union (AKT) has rejected yesterday afternoon the mediation proposal made by the National Conciliator. This means that the AKT strike will stop a part of road transports in Finland as well as local and regional bus services, strike begins today on Tuesday 2 March 2010 at 6.00 pm.
The strike will also affect the personnel at the largest cargo terminals which includes services like terminal handling, distribution/collections and deliveries on wheels; most of these services are still functioning by using workforce that does not belong to AKT. However, it cannot guarantee a normal service level.
AKT has also given a strike warning of the stevedores (dockworkers), strike would start on Thursday, 4 March , at 6.00 am. To speed up the negotiations between the Finnish Transport Workers' Union and the Finnish Port Operators AKT has introduced an overtime ban at all Finnish ports as of Tuesday 2 February 06.00 hrs. This has already affected our operations both in our export and import and has caused delays which are beyond our control.
Negotiations of the stevedores strike continue today, but if no agreement is reached and the strike begins we can only use accompanied trailers for our export and import. The shipping company has already informed that they won’t load any unaccompanied trailers for the Northbound departure from Travemünde on Wednesday 3 March 2010 night, arriving to Helsinki on Thursday 3 March.2010 morning if no result is found until Wednesday. If the stevedores’ strike begins it is expected that a separate Strike Surcharge will be implemented.
